Labour Party Forms Screening Committee for 2027 Elections

Labour Party screening committee 2027 elections formed as eight-member panel vets aspirants ahead of presidential, governorship and National Assembly primaries

The Labour Party has constituted an eight-member screening committee to assess aspirants seeking nomination for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The decision was announced in a special public statement jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and National Secretary Iheanacho Obioma, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Friday.

Labour Party panel for 2027 aspirant screening panel was established in line with Articles 20(1B)(d), 20(2)(d) and 27 of the party’s constitution, as well as provisions guiding its 2026 primary elections.

Senator Nenadi Usman will chair the committee, which includes Mrs Oluchi Okpara, Mohammed Salisu, Mrs Martina Umana, Mrs Deborah Yusuf, Chibuzo Okereke and Dr Olu Ayewo, while Iheanacho Obioma will serve as secretary.

The committee is tasked with overseeing the screening of aspirants for presidential, governorship and National Assembly positions, and recommending qualified candidates for the party’s primaries.

Labour Party 2027 candidate screening body mandate also includes ensuring strict compliance with the party’s constitution, the Electoral Act 2026 and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Members are expected to verify the authenticity and completeness of documents submitted by aspirants and ensure all candidates meet statutory and internal party eligibility requirements.

The committee’s formation is part of early preparations by the Labour Party as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
