Kwankwaso Promises Strong Alliance With Peter Obi

Rabiu Kwankwaso says he expects a strong working relationship with Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 elections

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence in building a strong political partnership with former presidential candidate Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso made the remarks during an appearance on Prime Time on Monday, where he dismissed concerns over possible regional tensions in a future working relationship with Obi.

The former Kano State governor said his past leadership experiences showed that political leaders and their deputies could work together effectively without conflict.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso recalled his time as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, noting that he maintained a productive relationship with the Speaker during his tenure.

He also reflected on his years as governor of Kano State, saying he worked harmoniously with his deputy governor despite political challenges.

“I was in Kano for eight years despite the difficulties with my then deputy governor, but we were able to work amicably for eight years,” he said.

Kwankwaso explained that many political disagreements between leaders and deputies often stem from personal ambition and greed rather than governance issues.

“The problem people are having, especially leaders, is that they are too greedy to the extent that they begin to have issues,” he stated.

The politician stressed that there is enough responsibility within government for leaders and their deputies to coexist peacefully without rivalry.

According to him, his previous experiences at both state and federal levels have convinced him that conflicts between presidents and vice presidents, or governors and deputies, are avoidable.

“I’m positive that we will have a very good working relationship,” Kwankwaso added while speaking on the possibility of collaborating with Peter Obi.

He further referenced past political alliances in Nigeria, including the relationship between Nigeria’s first Prime Minister, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, and Ahmadu Bello, as examples of successful cooperation across regions.

Kwankwaso also mentioned the Second Republic administration of former President Shehu Shagari as another example of inclusive leadership.
