Wike PDP faction bank account challenge as FCT Minister dares Turaki-led PDP group to open official account amid ongoing leadership crisis
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has challenged the Peoples Democratic Party faction led by Tanimu Turaki to establish an official party bank account and secretariat, insisting that such a move would test its claim to leadership of the opposition party.

Wike raises bank account legitimacy dispute within PDP faction was issued on Wednesday during a briefing with journalists in Abuja, where the FCT Minister escalated his criticism of the PDP’s ongoing internal crisis.
Wike accused rival party leaders of misleading the public and disregarding court judgments relating to the party’s leadership dispute, arguing that the faction lacks legal authority to run PDP affairs.
He specifically urged Turaki, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, to open a PDP account for party transactions, including nomination fees, stating that such transparency would expose the reality of the faction’s position.
Wike questioned the legal standing of the group, insisting that no financial institution would recognise an account without the proper documentation and officially recognised party structure.
He further warned against attempts to create parallel party offices in Abuja, saying any action that could disrupt public order would be firmly resisted.
According to him, existing court rulings have already clarified the legitimate leadership structure of the PDP, and any contrary interpretation was misleading and politically motivated.
Wike maintained that he remains a committed member of the PDP and said his position was aimed at protecting constitutional order within the party.

The PDP has continued to face deep divisions over leadership and convention outcomes, with rival factions competing for control ahead of the 2027 general elections.
