Gombe workers May Day celebration sees Gov. Inuwa Yahaya praise workers, reaffirm wage implementation and welfare commitments
Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya has commended workers across the state for their dedication and contribution to governance and development as Nigeria marked International Workers’ Day 2026.

In a message issued through his media aide, Ismaila Misili, the governor described workers as the driving force behind government operations and a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda.
He said the efforts of civil servants continue to form the foundation of progress recorded in the state.
Yahaya praised workers for their resilience, noting that their commitment remains essential to delivering public services despite economic challenges.
The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fair remuneration and improved welfare for workers across all sectors.
He noted that Gombe State was among the first to implement the national minimum wage and has continued to prioritise timely salary payments.
Yahaya also stated that the government has been consistent in paying pensions and other entitlements despite financial constraints.
He further disclosed that efforts are ongoing to clear outstanding gratuities owed to retirees at both state and local government levels.
According to him, the administration has made steady progress in improving working conditions across public institutions.
The governor announced full implementation of the new national minimum wage for local government staff, including employees of local education authorities and primary healthcare workers, effective May 2026.
He explained that the move clears the remaining 43 per cent balance, bringing implementation to full compliance.
Yahaya assured that workers will continue to remain at the centre of government policy, with a focus on fairness, productivity, and good governance.
He also commended organised labour in the state for maintaining industrial peace and supporting smooth governance operations.
