APP Accuses Imo Government Over Attack on Ugochinyere Supporters

Imo APP Ugochinyere attack allegation emerges as the party accuses the state government of deploying operatives to disrupt a constituency briefing event

The Imo State chapter of the Action Peoples Party (APP) has accused the state government of orchestrating an alleged attack on supporters of Ikenga Ugochinyere during a constituency event in Ideato South Local Government Area.

The Imo APP Ugochinyere attack allegation stems from an incident reportedly linked to a constituency briefing and the unveiling of a federal constituency office held at Christ Anglican Church, Itueke, where supporters of the lawmaker were gathered.

In a statement issued by its spokesperson, Steve Nnadi, the party alleged that security operatives and masked individuals were deployed to the venue, disrupting the event and subjecting attendees to what it described as intimidation, tear gas, and physical assault.

The APP claimed that the disruption was part of a pattern of targeted actions against the federal lawmaker, suggesting that the state government under Governor Hope Uzodinma has repeatedly engaged in politically motivated intimidation.

The party further alleged that the incident involved the use of force against unarmed constituents, describing the development as “barbaric” and warning that such actions could heighten political tension in the state.

It also referenced previous incidents it claims were linked to attacks on the lawmaker’s residence, which reportedly resulted in property destruction and loss of life, though these claims remain unverified by authorities.

The APP has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, state elders, and the Imo State House of Assembly to intervene and ensure accountability, warning that continued unrest could destabilise the region politically and socially.
