Oyebamiji Seeks Ooni Blessing Ahead of Osun Election

Oyebamiji Ooni of Ife blessing visit as Osun APC governorship candidate seeks royal prayers ahead of the August 2026 election

Bola Oyebamiji, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, in Ile-Ife, Osun State, visited the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, to seek royal blessings ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

The visit formed part of early political engagements as the APC candidate formally begins preparations for his campaign, pledging commitment to accountability, service and development if elected.

Oyebamiji told the monarch that his ambition is driven by a desire to improve governance and strengthen public trust across Osun State.

“We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign,” he said.

He added that he would not betray the confidence of the people and promised to work for the progress of Ile-Ife and the wider Osun State.

Oyebamiji also praised the Ooni for his efforts in promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage, describing Ile-Ife as a central symbol of historical and spiritual identity.

He explained that his visit followed advice from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who encouraged him to seek traditional blessings before commencing campaign activities.

“I informed Mr President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me to do so,” he said.

The Oyebamiji Ooni of Ife blessing engagement highlighted the cultural significance often attached to political consultations in Yoruba land, where traditional institutions play advisory and symbolic roles in leadership journeys.

In his response, the Ooni of Ife commended Oyebamiji for demonstrating respect for traditional authority, describing humility as an essential quality for leadership.

The monarch, however, urged politicians to prioritise unity and avoid actions that could deepen political divisions.

“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key,” the Ooni said.

He further advised that leaders must justify any blessings received through selfless service and good governance.

Oyebamiji was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti, Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and other party leaders.
