The exercise, which forms part of the ADC Ebonyi grassroots congress, was designed to deepen internal democracy and expand participation at the base of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Chairman of the Ebonyi State ADC Congress Committee, Uche Onyeagucha, said the party would not adopt the traditional delegates system. He explained that candidates would emerge through consensus or direct primaries, describing the approach as a step towards transparency and inclusiveness.

Onyeagucha said the decision was aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ensuring that members had a direct voice in the selection process.

The Secretary of the State Congress Committee, Barrister Sunday Udedibia, said the committee was committed to delivering a credible exercise that reflects the will of party members across the state.

He added that the congresses were conducted in line with party guidelines and with a clear mandate to reposition the party for future elections.

State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State, Dr Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor, described the turnout as impressive, noting that members demonstrated strong commitment during the exercise.

She urged supporters to remain united, adding that the party would continue to play a significant role in shaping the political direction of the state.

Adibe-Nwafor confirmed that the party complied with provisions of the Electoral Act by notifying the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while security agencies monitored proceedings across locations.

She also disclosed that party primaries are scheduled to hold between April 23 and April 30.

The State Secretary for Electoral Matters and INEC Liaison Officer, Engr Basil Imoke, said turnout was high in the areas he monitored, describing participation levels as encouraging.

Some officials emerged through consensus across different areas. In Ezza North Local Government Area, Oshim Ekuma was re-elected as chairman, while Chika Igwe and Peace Nwafor retained their positions in Okposi Ward.

In Ekka Ward, Anayo Nwankwo, who emerged as chairman, attributed the peaceful conduct of the exercise to the adoption of consensus arrangements.
