Ogun APC Guber: Obasanjo Confident of Party Support

Ogun APC guber ticket hopeful Iyabo Obasanjo expresses confidence in grassroots support and performance ahead of the 2027 election

Iyabo Obasanjo, governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, has expressed strong confidence in securing the party’s ticket for the 2027 election, citing widespread grassroots support and her track record in public office.

Speaking on Channels Television on Thursday, Obasanjo highlighted that the potential adoption of a consensus candidate could work in her favour.

She noted that most other aspirants had not formally declared or actively engaged with communities at the grassroots level, giving her a significant advantage.

“Most of them haven’t really gone out to interact with people at the community level or openly discuss their ambition,” Obasanjo said.

She emphasised that her support is built on performance rather than financial influence, referencing her tenure as commissioner for health and later as a senator.

Obasanjo further argued that the consensus process would naturally favour aspirants with proven popularity and electoral viability.

“Consensus will ultimately favour those who can win elections, because the party’s goal is victory,” she said, noting that public opinion remains central to candidate selection.
