VP Shettima Welcomes Gov. Fintiri and Supporters into APC

VP Shettima welcomes Gov. Fintiri and supporters into APC, calling them partners in nation-building and praising Adamawa’s development strides

Vice-President Kashim Shettima has affirmed that Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri and his supporters are not entering the All Progressives Congress (APC) as strangers, but as partners in nation-building.

Shettima made the statement on Monday in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, when he formally received Fintiri and his supporters into the APC on behalf of President Bola Tinubu.

The vice-president described the governor’s entry as a demonstration that democracy is strengthened not only by public mandate but also by political leaders making responsible choices that reinforce the system.

“On behalf of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu, I extend a warm and sincere welcome to you, Gov. Fintiri, and all your supporters who have made this journey today. You are not strangers to this house. You are partners in a shared mission—to build a nation that works, a democracy that delivers, and a future that rewards the aspirations of our people,” Shettima said.

He highlighted that the APC values governance that places Nigerians at the centre of decision-making, stressing that power is a responsibility, not an end.

Shettima added that Fintiri’s inclusion would bring fresh ideas and new thinking to the party.

“Political parties must breathe. They must adapt. They must draw strength from diversity of thought if they are to endure. This convergence is a renewal of purpose and hope,” he added.

Shettima also commended Fintiri’s stewardship in Adamawa, citing the state’s roads, public works, and other developmental projects as evidence of purposeful governance.

The APC National Chairman, Prof. Nantawe Yilwatda, praised Fintiri for progress in education, health, and critical infrastructure, welcoming him to the party fold.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, hailed Fintiri for joining the APC, noting that he now has opportunities to collaborate with fellow APC governors and participate in national politics.

The Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, described the APC as a brand and celebrated Fintiri’s move as a boost to the party’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Tinubu.

In response, Fintiri stated that he joined the APC to align with the administration’s policies, support the 2027 elections, and ensure continuity in governance.

He pledged a smooth path for the party in the state and promised a landslide victory.

The event concluded with the handover of the APC flag to Governor Fintiri as the party leader in Adamawa State.

Shortly after, Shettima paid a courtesy visit to Dr Barkindo Musdafa, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to protecting traditional institutions.
