Oyo APC Hails Peaceful Congresses, Calls for Zoning Review

Oyo APC praises peaceful ward and state congresses, urges national leaders to review zoning arrangements for fairness and inclusiveness

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in six local government areas of Oyo State have commended the party’s leadership for the peaceful conduct of its ward, local government, and state congresses, while calling for a review of zoning arrangements at the national level.

The stakeholders, representing Akinyele, Egbeda, Ido, Lagelu, Oluyole, and Ona-Ara local government areas, issued a communiqué following their quarterly meeting at the APC secretariat along New Ife Road in Ibadan on Tuesday.

The statement, signed by Kamorudeen Ajisafe, Chairman, and Buliaminu Ogundele, Secretary, noted that concerns about potential disputes had emerged due to past congresses in 2018 and 2022.

“Now that the congresses are over, naysayers and doubting Thomases have been placed where they rightfully belonged. Oyo APC emerged stronger and better focused after the whole exercise,” the communiqué read.

The stakeholders attributed the smooth conduct to the adoption of consensus-based leadership and the disciplined conduct of party members across the state. They reported that all 351 wards and 33 local government areas completed the congresses without incidents of violence.

The group also congratulated former deputy governor Moses Adeyemo on his election as the new state chairman and pledged full support to facilitate the party’s objectives ahead of the 2027 elections. However, they urged the chairman to address lingering disagreements in certain local government areas.

Finally, the stakeholders called on the APC national leadership to review the zoning arrangement used during the last national convention, noting that Oyo State’s significant voting population and human resources should warrant more influential positions within both the South West zonal and National Executive Committee structures.

“Oyo State has an enormous voting size and population, as well as human resources, which should earn it better positions in the scheme of things. We call for justice and fairness before it is too late,” the statement concluded.
