Omoyele Sowore Vows Revolutionary Challenge to Nigeria’s Political Elite

Omoyele Sowore pledges revolutionary challenge to Nigeria’s political elite, criticising officials and promising bold reforms ahead of 2027 elections

Former presidential candidate and leader of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has pledged to take a bold stand against Nigeria’s political establishment ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sowore said his party would “force the democratic space open, whether they like it or not, in a revolutionary way,” signalling a direct challenge to the ruling elite and mainstream political actors.

He criticised current politicians, accusing them of prioritising personal gain over national development, and declared he could not align with those whose “only agenda… is to come and loot, destroy and render this country one of the worst countries in the world.”

Sowore also questioned the economic value of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to the United Kingdom, suggesting that Nigerian musicians often generate more revenue for the country than official presidential trips.

“Sometimes, some of these our musicians who go and perform in the UK bring more money into the country than when the president travels to the UK or anywhere,” he said.

The AAC leader added that Nigeria’s economy could rival or surpass that of the United Kingdom if it had been properly governed over the years.

He criticised ceremonial foreign visits aimed at attracting investment, asserting that a well-managed economy would naturally draw investors.
