Former Yobe PDP governorship aspirant Dr Ali Tikau defects to the African Democratic Congress, pledging to strengthen the party ahead of future elections
A former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in Yobe State, Dr Ali Tikau, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tikau made the announcement on Monday during a ceremony in his hometown of Tikau, Nangere Local Government Area, where a large crowd of supporters and political associates gathered.
As part of the formal exit, Tikau surrendered his PDP membership card to ward executives, including Samaila Jalamawa, Chairman of the PDP Tikau Ward, and the ward secretary.
He was officially received into the ADC, receiving a party membership card from Babangida Dagare, representing the state chairman. Other officials present included Youth Leader Ali Garba Tikau, Organising Secretary Salisu Ibrahim, and Adamu Hassan.
Dr Tikau, who previously served as Executive Secretary of the National Primary Education Commission, contested the Yobe State governorship under the PDP in both 2011 and 2023.
Addressing journalists, Tikau explained that his decision followed consultations with supporters and political allies, aimed at exploring new opportunities to promote development in his community and state.
“Having served the PDP peacefully for many years, we have collectively resolved to join the ADC to foster comprehensive development for our community,” he said.
He also pledged commitment to strengthening the ADC and mobilising support for the party ahead of future elections.

“We are fully committed to working relentlessly to ensure the success of the ADC in all elections, from the local to the national level, come 2027,” Tikau added, urging his supporters to remain united and committed to the party’s ideals.
