Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of Sinister 2027 Rigging Plot

Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of 2027 Rigging Plot, alleging misuse of state institutions and warning of threats to Nigeria’s electoral democracy

Kenneth Okonkwo, lawyer and politician, on Tuesday alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress is attempting to use state institutions to rig Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, warning that recent legislative actions threaten electoral integrity.

Speaking during an appearance on Arise Television’s Morning Show monitored in Abuja, Kenneth Okonkwo accused the APC led Federal Government of introducing measures designed to disadvantage opposition parties well before voting begins.

Kenneth Okonkwo Accuses APC of 2027 Rigging Plot as he criticised a directive requiring opposition political parties to submit digitalised membership registers within what he described as an unreasonably short timeframe.

“What the APC is doing is trying to use state institutions to rig the 2027 elections before they happen,” Kenneth Okonkwo said.

Kenneth Okonkwo argued that prior to the National Assembly’s December recess, lawmakers had resolved that electronic transmission of election results would be guaranteed.

However, he claimed that after resumption, the legislature reversed course within a week, allegedly following a call from President Bola Tinubu.

He further alleged that amendments were introduced that could undermine transparent result transmission, describing the changes as harmful to democratic safeguards.

“How can this government demand opposition parties submit digitalised registers within two months?” Kenneth Okonkwo asked. “Amendments should cure mischief, but APC’s aim is to create it.”

Kenneth Okonkwo called for vigilance among citizens and political actors, saying that restoring confidence in electoral democracy would require collective action.

“Going forward, it will require the collective effort of all Nigerians to combat disenchantments, address grievances and restore faith in electoral democracy,” he added.

There was no immediate response from the APC or federal authorities to the allegations at the time of filing this report.

The debate comes as political manoeuvring intensifies ahead of the 2027 elections, with parties already positioning for what is expected to be a fiercely contested race.
