El-Rufai Suffers Setback as Judge Withdraws Fundamental Rights Case

The announcement was made by Trial Judge Hussaini Belgore, who cited his impending leave as the reason for withdrawing.

The case file has been returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal Capital Territory High Court for reassignment to another judge, putting proceedings on hold.

El-Rufai’s suit, filed at the FCT High Court, alleges violations of his fundamental rights, including the unlawful invasion of his Abuja residence by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The legal matter also references the involvement of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in related proceedings.

The judge’s withdrawal introduces uncertainty over the timeline of the case, as the appointment of a new judge and rescheduling of hearing dates remain pending.
