Makinde Holds Closed-Door Meeting with NNPP Leader Kwankwaso in Ibadan

Oyo Governor Seyi Makinde holds a closed-door meeting with NNPP leader Rabiu Kwankwaso in Ibadan amid early 2027 election consultations

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde met privately with the National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, in Ibadan on Wednesday, sources confirmed.

A brief video shared by political news platform Oyo Affairs showed Makinde arriving at the venue, exchanging greetings with Kwankwaso and other attendees.

The content and outcomes of the meeting were not disclosed.

The gathering follows Makinde’s recent engagement with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar at the Uphill Mansion in Minna, Niger State, widely interpreted as part of early political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Kwankwaso returned to Nigeria recently via Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after what the NNPP described as “strategic international engagements” in India.

His return also comes amid reports of a proposed United States Congress bill recommending targeted sanctions against him over alleged religious freedom violations in Nigeria.

Political analysts view the Makinde-Kwankwaso meeting as a potential step in coalition-building ahead of next year’s polls, though no official statement has confirmed the agenda or implications.
