Onanuga stated that El-Rufai’s recent public statements regarding the alleged wiretapping of National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu’s telephone were motivated by self-interest rather than national stability.
The presidential adviser described the former governor’s actions as calculated efforts to mislead the public and instil fear.
According to Onanuga, El-Rufai’s conduct seeks to divert attention from unresolved domestic issues and corruption allegations in Kaduna State.
By portraying himself as a victim of political persecution, El-Rufai is attempting to nationalise local problems and attract public sympathy.
The presidential adviser urged Nigerians to critically assess political narratives and avoid spreading unverified information capable of undermining peace.
Onanuga affirmed that the current administration remains focused on governance, stability, and national development despite attempts to create distractions.
Observers note that El-Rufai has previously been a controversial figure in national politics, often attracting criticism for statements perceived as provocative.
