APC confirms engagement with Nyesom Wike to resolve Rivers State political crisis and ensure peaceful resolution ahead of 2027 elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has confirmed that party leadership is engaging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in efforts to resolve the political crisis in Rivers State.

The party cited Wike’s influence in the state and his strong support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027 despite not being a registered APC member.
APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, disclosed the engagement on Thursday during an interview on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, describing the consultations as confidential.
“Rivers State is critical to the success of President Tinubu, and definitely, he will be engaged. He’s been engaged in an amicable resolution in the state as expected,” Basiru said.
The crisis erupted after the Rivers State House of Assembly requested the Chief Judge of the state to constitute a panel to investigate allegations of gross misconduct against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Odu.
The lawmakers insisted the impeachment process would proceed, citing alleged attempts by the governor to intimidate and blackmail the legislature.
In response, the Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt issued an interim order barring the Chief Judge from accepting the impeachment notice.
Justice Simeon Amadi subsequently declined a request to set up a seven-member judicial panel to investigate the governor and deputy.
Basiru assured Nigerians and Rivers State residents that the party aims to settle the crisis amicably without creating winners or losers.
He said details of the resolution would be shared publicly in the coming days.
Addressing criticisms that the APC caters primarily to elites, Basiru emphasised that the party is mass-based and growing.
“Going by the figures from our mass e-registration system, we are confident that APC is a party to beat in all elections.
We are loved by the Nigerian people, and they are trooping out to join the APC,” he said.
