Kano Governor defection to APC unconfirmed

Abba Kabir Yusuf’s APC defection remains unconfirmed, but ward officials are ready for his registration and potential party switch

There is still no official confirmation on when Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, will formally defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The speculation followed claims that the governor would register at the APC office in his Ɗiso Ward, Gwale Local Government Area, but local party officials said no directive had been received from higher authorities regarding his visit.

“We have not received any instruction from above concerning the governor’s coming today. Nevertheless, we are fully prepared. Even if it is late at night and the governor decides to register today, we will be ready to receive him,” said Malam Maje Kabir Ahmad, Chairman of the APC in Ɗiso Ward.

The ward is politically strategic, housing key figures including the Kano State APC Chairman, Abdullahi Abbas, who is related by blood and political history to Governor Yusuf.

Ward officials say the governor’s return to the APC would significantly influence the political landscape and development in Kano State.

The APC ward office, a modest facility beside the Gwale Local Government Secretariat, is undergoing renovations to improve infrastructure ahead of the anticipated defection.

Governor Yusuf was present at the State House on Sunday, leading a graduation ceremony for beneficiaries of the Kano State Government’s vocational skills programme.

He supervised the distribution of empowerment tools and support materials to 2,260 youths to promote self-reliance and employment opportunities.

Political observers noted the absence of references to the Kwankwasiyya movement and its leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as well as the omission of signature songs traditionally played at events involving the governor.

Analysts say this has further fueled speculation about his political future and possible defection to the APC.
