The chairmen-elect visited the minister to present their certificates of return.
Wike congratulated the officials on their victories, emphasising that effective governance should take precedence over partisan interests.
He urged the leaders to prioritise unity and cooperation to drive development across the territory.
“By the grace of God, you have worked hard and emerged victorious, and we thank God for the opportunity given to you to serve,” Wike said.
“No matter the party, what is important is that we work together. Since I came as minister, we have always worked together in the city, and that is why we have continued to achieve results.”
The minister also introduced the concept of an inclusive governance model, describing it as a “rainbow coalition” for the FCT.
While the administration supported candidates loyal to President Bola Tinubu, Wike emphasised that all council leaders would have the opportunity to contribute to the territory’s progress.
“Candidates who supported Mr. President received our support, and we thank God they emerged victorious. Even those from other parties who support the President will be part of what we call a rainbow coalition in the FCT,” he said.
Looking ahead to the chairmen’s swearing-in ceremony in June, Wike promised a seamless partnership with the FCT Administration but reminded the leaders of the responsibilities their positions entail.
“By the time you are sworn in, we will begin to work together to move the councils forward. The support given to you by Mr. President means you must reciprocate by giving good governance to the people,” he said.
