Umahi calls for South-East backing of Tinubu’s 2027 bid appeal was made on Wednesday during an inspection of ongoing federal road and bridge projects in Ebonyi State.
David Umahi said the Tinubu administration had launched unprecedented infrastructure development across the South-East, describing the projects as unmatched by any previous government in the region.
He highlighted major works on the Calabar–Ebonyi–Benue–Nasarawa–Abuja Superhighway, which he described as a legacy project designed to transform regional connectivity and economic activity.
According to him, significant funding has already been released for the project, while further approvals are underway to support dualisation of key sections of the corridor.
Umahi also acknowledged funding challenges facing contractors but assured that the Federal Government remained committed to fulfilling all obligations.
The minister linked continued development in the region to political support, urging communities benefiting from the projects to reciprocate through their votes in the 2027 elections.
He further argued that the South-East had regained political relevance under the current administration, citing large-scale infrastructure investments and his own appointment as Minister of Works as evidence of inclusion.
Umahi called on regional leaders to openly communicate the government’s achievements, insisting that public awareness was crucial ahead of the next general election.
He maintained that the ongoing projects would significantly advance before the end of the year, adding that strategic political support was necessary to sustain development momentum.
