Timi Frank Warns ADC Crisis May Trigger National Unrest

Timi Frank warns that INEC’s ADC leadership dispute could trigger national crisis ahead of 2027 elections and threatens Nigeria’s democracy

Former APC chieftain Comrade Timi Frank has warned that growing political tensions around the African Democratic Congress African Democratic Congress could trigger a national crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Frank raised concerns over the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC decision to derecognise the party’s leadership, describing it as a threat to democratic stability.

He alleged that interference in opposition politics could “set Nigeria on fire” if not urgently addressed.

Frank also urged United States President Donald Trump to intervene in safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy, warning of what he described as rising authoritarian tendencies.

He linked the current political climate to what he called patterns reminiscent of the regime of former Head of State, Sani Abacha, suggesting a drift towards democratic backsliding.

According to him, recent developments appear to target opposition structures ahead of the 2027 elections.

The political activist also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress All Progressives Congress, alleging attempts to weaken political opposition.

Frank’s comments followed INEC’s decision to derecognise certain leadership structures within the ADC amid ongoing internal disputes and legal interpretations of court rulings.

A civil society group, the Nigeria Democratic Rights Advocacy (NDRA), also alleged that efforts were underway to hinder the ADC’s participation in the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, the ADC has rejected INEC’s position, accusing the electoral body of bias and improper interpretation of court judgments.

The party further stated that it is reviewing legal and political options to protect its leadership structure and electoral participation.
