Speaking through his representative, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo, Shettima emphasized that Tinubu’s government does not rule from a distance but walks hand in hand with Nigerians, ensuring inclusivity in every reform.
“Leadership isn’t about holding office,” Shettima said, “It’s about shouldering the burden of service. We’re not crafting policy in solitude but institutionalising listening.”
The VP noted that critical national reforms from tax and education to post-subsidy economic relief were shaped by citizen feedback.
For instance, the controversial Access to Higher Education Act was repealed and re-enacted to eliminate barriers for poor students.
Shettima also pointed out Tinubu’s decision to suspend unpopular taxes like the single-use plastic levy after public objections.
“We responded with empathy increasing wages, removing diesel tax, and introducing CNG buses,” he stated.
