Former Kano Governor Ibrahim Shekarau mourns brother Dahiru’s death. President Bola Tinubu extends condolences and urges honouring his legacy
Former Kano State Governor and ex-senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, is mourning the death of his elder brother, Dahiru Shekarau, a retired permanent secretary and respected public administrator, in Kano, northwest Nigeria.

The passing was confirmed by family sources on Wednesday, 11 February 2026.
Dahiru Shekarau was widely recognised for his years of service and contributions to governance in the state, leaving a legacy of integrity and commitment to public service.
The former governor described the loss as a personal and family tragedy.
President Bola Tinubu extended condolences to Senator Ibrahim Shekarau in a statement released on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
The president noted that the late Dahiru Shekarau’s impact extended beyond his family, highlighting his dedication to building institutions and serving communities across Kano State.
Former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje visited the Shekarau family to offer support and pay his respects, reflecting the high regard in which Dahiru Shekarau was held within political and government circles.
President Tinubu encouraged the Shekarau family to honour the late public servant by continuing his tradition of community service.
