Shehu Sani Claims Tinubu, Atiku And Obi Share Same Political Ideology

Shehu Sani’s comments on shared political ideology, stirs debate as former senator says Tinubu, Atiku, Obasanjo and Peter Obi share same political thinking

Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, and Labour Party figure Peter Obi all operate from a similar political ideology and worldview.

Speaking during an appearance on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Sani argued that despite public perception of ideological differences, Nigeria’s leading political figures are largely driven by the same governing philosophy.

The Shehu Sani political ideology claim also extended to criticisms of the nature of political support in the country, with the former senator suggesting that backing for certain politicians is often influenced by ethnic identity rather than policy-driven considerations.

He specifically referenced Peter Obi’s support base, describing it as largely rooted in shared ethnic affiliation, a claim likely to further intensify ongoing national debates around identity politics.

Sani further argued that a change in leadership among the country’s major political actors would not necessarily result in significant systemic transformation, suggesting continuity in governance style regardless of who occupies office.

Reflecting on past administrations, he pointed to the period under former President Muhammadu Buhari, noting that insecurity and violence persisted while political reactions in some quarters remained muted.

The remarks have sparked renewed discussion about Nigeria’s political structure, elite continuity, and whether meaningful ideological distinctions exist among the country’s dominant political figures.
