Rivers PDP APC defection deepens as six House of Representatives members dump PDP for the ruling APC, citing internal crisis
Six members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State on Tuesday defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress, dealing a fresh blow to the opposition party’s strength in the National Assembly.

The lawmakers, Robinson Dekor, Solomon Bob, Cyril Hart, Victor Obuzor, Blessing Amadi and Felix Nwaeke, announced their defection during plenary in Abuja.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, read their letters on the floor, citing divisions and an unresolved political crisis within the PDP as the reason for their exit.
The lawmakers stated that persistent internal disputes had made it impossible for them to pursue their political aspirations effectively within the party.
They pledged their loyalty to the APC and declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing the move as a strategic decision taken in the interest of stability and effective representation.
The Rivers PDP APC defection further weakened the opposition’s presence in the state’s caucus, reducing the PDP’s representation from 12 members to just two.
Only the House Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, and Kelechi Nwogu now remain in the PDP caucus from Rivers State.
The development follows last week’s defection of three Rivers lawmakers, Boniface Emerengwa, Awaji-Inombek Abiante and Boma Goodhead, who also crossed over from the PDP to the APC.
