The decision was reached during the Assembly’s resumed sitting in Port Harcourt, where lawmakers moved a motion to suspend the process.
The Rivers Assembly suspends impeachment move came weeks after the House, at its first sitting of 2026, initiated proceedings against Governor Fubara and Deputy Governor Odu over allegations of gross misconduct.
The allegations included the demolition of the State Assembly complex and expenditure of public funds without legislative approval, among other claims.
President Tinubu’s intervention, which sources described as decisive, appeared to have paved the way for the temporary truce between the executive and legislative arms of government in the oil-rich state.
The development marks a significant shift in the tense political climate that has defined Rivers State in recent months.
