Plateau PDP screening exercise sees 134 aspirants cleared ahead of 2027 primaries as party moves toward consensus-based candidate selection
The Peoples Democratic Party in Plateau State has completed the screening of three senatorial aspirants and 131 House of Assembly aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The exercise was confirmed on Tuesday by the chairman of the screening committee, Tyem Gideon Nanden, who spoke to journalists in Jos after the conclusion of the process.
He explained that the screened aspirants will proceed to the party’s primary elections scheduled for next Wednesday.
According to Nanden, most of the candidates emerged through consensus arrangements across key positions, including the three senatorial districts in the state.
The senatorial aspirants include Johnbuil Shekarau for Plateau South, Timothy Golu for Plateau Central, and Formson Godson Dalyop for Plateau North.
He added that all House of Representatives candidates were also selected through consensus, except for the Langtang North/Langtang South federal constituency, where competition remains unresolved.
Nanden further disclosed that 131 aspirants are contesting for the 24-member Plateau State House of Assembly tickets under the party’s platform.
He also confirmed that five governorship aspirants from the state are currently undergoing screening in Abuja as part of the wider selection process.
The governorship hopefuls include Chief Kefas Wungak Ropshik, Sarpya Danielo, Sunday Biggs, Alfred Dapal, and Alex Ladam.
Addressing concerns over internal disputes, Nanden dismissed claims of factionalisation within the party, insisting that the PDP remains united under its national leadership.

He affirmed that the party remains duly recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and ruled out any possibility of rival factions fielding candidates.
