Peter Obi Denies Urging Verbal Attacks on Opposition Leaders

Peter Obi denies encouraging Obidient Movement members to attack opposition leaders, stressing his politics rejects verbal assaults ahead of 2027 elections

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has denied allegations that he encouraged members of the Obidient Movement to verbally attack opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, amid rising tensions within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The clarification came in a viral video circulating on social media, which sources confirmed originated from an engagement held at the Obidient Movement secretariat on Tuesday, January 27.

Yunusa Tanko, national coordinator of the movement, verified the authenticity of the clip to The Punch on Wednesday night.

In the video, Obi distanced himself from the alleged verbal attacks, emphasising that such conduct is alien to both his personal politics and the ethos of the Obidients.

He reiterated his commitment to constructive political engagement rather than inflammatory remarks.

Obi also disclosed that he owns no house or land in Abuja, citing a preference to avoid unnecessary headaches, during a coffee session with KayhikersClub in the Federal Capital Territory.

Ahead of the 2027 elections, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has reportedly proposed a strategic alliance between Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, former presidential candidates of the Labour Party (LP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) respectively.

According to ADC sources, both parties have begun setting up a committee to formalise the joint ticket, and Obi is being connected with northern power brokers to ensure the alliance’s success.
