The decision was made at the 105th NEC meeting in Abuja, where members unanimously ratified resolutions from the emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025.
The NEC also endorsed a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s current leadership.
Following the judgment, NEC directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee as the lawful administrative authority of the PDP.
The committee called on all PDP organs, members, and stakeholders to comply with existing court rulings and for INEC to implement the decision.
The NEC reaffirmed that the Caretaker Committee remains the sole national administrative organ of the party until a duly convened National Convention is held.
To prepare for the transition to an elected leadership, NEC approved the following timetable for nationwide congresses:
Ward Congresses: February 2026
Local Government Congresses: February 2026
State Congresses: March 2026
The Caretaker Committee was also directed to issue detailed guidelines for the conduct of congresses in accordance with the PDP Constitution and INEC regulations.
Additionally, the tenure of caretaker committees at national, state, and zonal levels was extended until the conclusion of congresses and the National Convention.
