Oyetola’s 2026 Governorship Withdrawal Shocks Osun APC as Ex-Governor Pledges Full Support for Party Victory

Oyetola’s 2026 governorship withdrawal confirmed as ex-governor opts out of Osun race. He urges unity and pledges to back APC’s efforts to reclaim power in 2026

Oyetola’s 2026 Governorship Withdrawal has clarified political speculations in Osun State as former Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, officially declared he will not run in the 2026 gubernatorial election.

Oyetola made the announcement at a high-level APC stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Friday, which was co-chaired by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Elders’ Caucus Chairman Sola Akinwumi.

The meeting was attended by five governorship aspirants: Kunle Adegoke, Dotun Babayemi, Bola Oyebamiji, Mudasiru Hussein, and Babajide Omoworare.

Addressing the gathering, Oyetola dismissed recent speculation around his candidacy and instead declared that restoring APC to power in 2026 was his top priority.

“We have qualified, competent, and tested aspirants. That is our strength. I will not be contesting in the upcoming election but will fully support whoever emerges,” he stated.

He also urged aspirants to maintain decorum, avoid foul language, and unite behind the eventual flagbearer to ensure victory for the party.

Speaking on Saturday, APC spokesperson Kola Olabisi confirmed Oyetola’s statement, emphasizing the former governor’s call for discipline, hard work, and internal cohesion.

“He told party leaders to avoid divisive utterances. His promise to support the party’s candidate is a major boost,” Olabisi added.
