Political Scientist Francis Onyema Launches Ambitious 2027 Presidential Bid Outreach

Onyema 2027 presidential bid gains attention as Francis Onyema writes Obasanjo, Jonathan and others ahead of his official declaration in Abuja

Francis Onyema, a 38-year-old presidential aspirant under the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has formally written to former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, as well as other prominent Nigerian leaders, notifying them of his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election.

The Onyema 2027 presidential bid was outlined in a series of consultation letters sent to national figures including the Oba of Benin, the Emir of Kano, and human rights lawyer Femi Falana, signalling the commencement of early political engagements ahead of the race.

According to sources close to his campaign, the letters form part of Onyema’s broader consultation strategy with influential stakeholders ahead of his official declaration scheduled for March 25, 2026, in Abuja.

Onyema, who hails from Delta State and describes himself as a political scientist, said his ambition is driven by what he calls the need for a shift towards “rational governance” and leadership anchored on ideas rather than political rhetoric.

As part of his declaration, the Onyema 2027 presidential bid will also feature the presentation of a policy essay titled From the Political Class to the Reformist (Solution) Class, which he describes as a framework for national transformation.

He argues that Nigerian elections should prioritise ideas and practical solutions, insisting that leadership selection must move beyond political influence and financial strength to focus on credibility and policy depth.

Onyema further maintained that sustainable national development depends on citizens critically assessing candidates based on the quality and feasibility of their proposals.
