Nyesom Wike Defiant After FCT Election as the FCT minister says critics wanted him to fail but credits governors for support in council polls

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Monday declared that political opponents who hoped to see him fail in the just concluded area council elections in Abuja had been disappointed, insisting that experience and strategy carried the day.

Speaking during his monthly media chat in the capital, Nyesom Wike dismissed suggestions that he overshadowed the campaign machinery of the All Progressives Congress during the FCT poll.

Nyesom Wike Defiant After FCT Election was the tone of his remarks as the minister rejected claims that his personal performance eclipsed party structures. “No. What do you mean by overshadowing?” he asked journalists.

“You were there when the Deputy Speaker said with the performance of the minister they had no problem, that my performance made them win the election.”

The minister said several political actors had anticipated a setback for him but were ultimately proven wrong. “So many people wanted me to fail, but we had to tell them that we’re old in this game,” he said.

Nyesom Wike credited the support of AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and Dapo Abiodun, describing both governors as instrumental to the campaign effort.

Nyesom Wike also commended Ahmed Usman Ododo for coordinating activities in Abaji Area Council.

The area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory were closely watched as a measure of political strength ahead of future contests.

While the minister did not provide detailed breakdowns of results during the session, he maintained that performance in office had resonated with voters.

Observers noted that the media chat carried moments of political theatre, with Nyesom Wike projecting confidence and seasoned authority.

The minister’s remarks underscore his continued influence within the ruling party’s structures and the FCT’s political landscape.
