Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan Faces Heated Stand-Off at Senate

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan was involved in a tense confrontation at the National Assembly over access to a committee office

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, was involved in a tense confrontation at the National Assembly on Monday at the office of Senator Titus Zam, representing Benue North-West and Chairman of the Senate Committee on the North Central Development Commission.

Sources said the altercation followed a budget defence session earlier in the day, which concluded before Akpoti-Uduaghan arrived.

Upon finding the session over, she reportedly proceeded to the committee chairman’s office with her legislative aides to seek clarification.

Eyewitnesses claimed tension escalated after she was denied entry to the office, leading to a heated exchange involving staff and members of the senator’s entourage.

One aide was accused of physically confronting a staff member, prompting intervention from National Assembly security personnel.

The incident was eventually contained, though the immediate trigger remains unclear.

Monday’s event follows a series of disputes involving Akpoti-Uduaghan in Senate proceedings.

Last week, she clashed with Senator Patrick Ndubueze, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Steel Development, during an interactive session with the Minister of Steel Development, Shuaibu Audu.

The disagreement arose after Ndubueze attempted to conclude the minister’s appearance, which Akpoti-Uduaghan described as disrespectful.

As of the time of reporting, neither Akpoti-Uduaghan, Zam, nor the Senate leadership has issued an official statement regarding Monday’s confrontation.
