Kwara APC Chieftains Back Ashiru in Strong 2027 Push

Kwara APC chieftains back Senator Oyelola Ashiru for governor, urging fairness, inclusion and internal democracy ahead of 2027

Senior chieftains of the All Progressives Congress in Kwara State have endorsed Senator Oyelola Ashiru, the Deputy Senate Majority Leader, as a leading contender for the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of a consultative meeting held in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state.

The stakeholders said the governorship position should not be treated as the exclusive preserve of any bloc, group, or senatorial district, stressing that all parts of Kwara possess capable and competent party members.

The communiqué was signed by the chairman and secretary of the drafting committee, Pastor Elisha Odenike and Mr Oluwasogo Lawal.

According to the document, the meeting expressed strong confidence in Senator Ashiru’s leadership capacity and encouraged him and other qualified party members to offer themselves for higher service.

“In this regard, the meeting expressed strong confidence in leaders such as the Deputy Majority Leader of the 10th Senate, Senator Lola Ashiru,” the communiqué stated.

The chieftains urged the APC leadership at both state and national levels to ensure fairness, equity, inclusiveness, and internal democracy in the process leading to the emergence of the party’s governorship flag bearer.

They also expressed optimism that the APC stands a strong chance of victory in Kwara State in 2027, both at the governorship level and in legislative contests.

Addressing internal party tensions, the stakeholders criticised what they described as distractions driven by self-serving narratives, including the “Igbomina Lokan” agitation.

They alleged that such campaigns were aimed at marginalising credible aspirants from Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The communiqué warned that attempts to dominate political offices within Kwara South through exclusionary tactics would be resisted, describing such manoeuvres as unacceptable.

The meeting encouraged qualified progressives from Ifelodun to contest the Ifelodun, Offa, and Oyun Federal Constituency seat in 2027, pledging support for inclusive participation.

Reaffirming party loyalty, the chieftains pledged unwavering support for the APC, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, vowing unity, discipline, and strategic mobilisation to strengthen the party.
