Rabiu Kwankwaso says NDC supporters are driven by political change, not election-day incentives, as the party prepares for the 2027 polls
Vice-presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said supporters of the party are motivated by a desire for political change rather than expectations of receiving money or material items during elections.

Kwankwaso made the statement during an interview on Channels Television on Monday while discussing the party’s strategy ahead of the 2027 general election.
The former Kano State governor said NDC supporters were committed to ensuring that their votes count and would actively participate in protecting the electoral process.
“Our supporters are not just merely people who are looking for money or who are looking for textile or food items on the day of election,” Kwankwaso said.
“These are people who are determined not only to vote but to make sure that the votes are being protected.”
Kwankwaso, who is running alongside presidential candidate Peter Obi, said the party’s support base represents Nigerians seeking a change in leadership.
The NDC ticket emerged after Kwankwaso agreed to serve as Obi’s running mate, bringing together the support networks associated with the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwasiyya political movement.
The alliance is expected to compete against major political figures in the 2027 presidential race, including incumbent President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress.

Kwankwaso’s comments come amid growing political activity ahead of the election, with parties and candidates intensifying efforts to build support across different regions of the country.
