Kwankwaso Lacks Power to Decide Kano Votes, APC Chieftain Says

APC chieftain Faizu Alfindiki says Rabiu Kwankwaso lacks the political strength to determine presidential election results in Kano State

Former Chairman of Kano Municipal Council Faizu Alfindiki on Tuesday dismissed claims that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso possesses the political influence to determine presidential election outcomes in Kano State.

Alfindiki spoke in Kano while addressing APC social media influencers, where he argued that concerns over a possible political alliance involving Kwankwaso and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi should not unsettle the ruling All Progressives Congress.

According to him, voting patterns in Kano have consistently shown that presidential elections are driven more by the popularity of individual candidates than by political structures controlled by state leaders.

“Kwankwaso cannot deliver Kano votes the way it is often claimed. The voting pattern in this state has always shown that individuals, not political structures, determine presidential results,” Alfindiki said.

The APC chieftain cited several past elections to support his argument, pointing to the strong electoral performances recorded by former President Muhammadu Buhari in Kano over the years.

“In 2003, Buhari had about 1.6 million votes in Kano, yet Kwankwaso, who was governor at the time, could not deliver the state to Obasanjo,” he stated.

Alfindiki added that Buhari continued to secure overwhelming support in Kano in subsequent elections, regardless of who controlled the state government.

“Even in 2011, Buhari still dominated Kano despite the presence of a sitting governor. That shows the limits of Kwankwaso’s influence,” he added.

He also referenced the 2019 and 2023 elections, arguing that the results further weakened claims of Kwankwaso’s political dominance in the state.

According to Alfindiki, Kwankwaso’s performance as a presidential candidate in 2023 did not reflect the level of influence often attributed to him in national political discussions.

“Nobody is denying that Kwankwaso is relevant in Kano politics, but history does not support the idea that he controls presidential voting in the state,” he said.

The former council chairman maintained that the APC remains politically strong in Kano and across northern Nigeria ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Our structure is intact, and we are not worried about any political combination ahead of 2027,” he added.
