Kebbi APC reinstates Kana-Zuru after 3-month suspension

Kebbi APC reinstates Kana-Zuru after three months, ending Adamu Mudi Augie’s tenure as acting chairman with immediate effect

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kebbi State has reinstated its State Chairman, Abubakar Muhammad Kana-Zuru, three months after suspending him from office, bringing the party’s interim leadership arrangement to an end.

Isah Abubakar Assalafi, the Kebbi APC State Publicity Secretary, announced the decision on Thursday, October 1, at a press conference at the party’s secretariat in Birnin Kebbi.

Assalafi said the State Working Committee, SWC, reviewed the circumstances and subsequent developments surrounding Kana-Zuru’s suspension before resolving to revoke the decision with immediate effect.

The SWC had suspended Kana-Zuru at its meeting on June 20, 2026, through Resolution No. KSWC/010/2026.

At the time, the party said the suspension followed complaints from stakeholders in the Zuru Emirate concerning the handling of party affairs. Reports cited allegations of inadequate stakeholder engagement, weak mobilisation and non-compliance with established party procedures.

The suspension came shortly after the Zuru State Constituency by-election, which was won by the APC candidate, Rabiu Garba Aiki. Official results showed Aiki secured 4,871 votes against Labour Party candidate Aliyu Muhammad’s 168 votes.

Following Kana-Zuru’s suspension, his deputy, Adamu Mudi Augie, was directed to serve as acting state chairman pending further directives.

The latest resolution has now terminated that interim arrangement.

“Accordingly, Alhaji Adamu Mudi Augie shall cease to act as Acting State Chairman and shall resume his substantive office as Deputy State Chairman,” Assalafi said.

The APC also directed that official records, documents, correspondence and other affairs relating to the chairman’s office be handed over to Kana-Zuru.

The State Working Committee further instructed the party secretary to communicate the resolution to the relevant party organs, including the APC national headquarters, for information and necessary action.

The party said the resolution took effect immediately upon its adoption at the SWC meeting on October 1.

Kana-Zuru is therefore expected to resume the full functions, powers and responsibilities attached to the office of Kebbi APC chairman.

The party has not publicly provided detailed information on what specific developments led to the reversal of the June decision.

Its latest explanation is that the SWC reviewed subsequent circumstances and developments before deciding to revoke the suspension.

The reinstatement marks a significant change in the leadership of the Kebbi APC as political parties continue preparations for the 2027 general elections.

For the Kebbi chapter, the decision also restores its elected chairman after a three-month period of interim leadership.

The APC has directed its organs, officials, members and stakeholders in the state to recognise and respect the resolution as Kana-Zuru returns to the position with immediate effect.
