Vice-President Kashim Shettima arrives in Ethiopia to represent Nigeria at the 39th AU Summit, emphasizing peace, security, and Africa’s economic integration
Vice-President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Addis Ababa to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) Assembly, scheduled for February 14–15.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar, announced that Shettima was received at Bole International Airport by Ethiopian officials, including the Minister of Innovation and Technology, Dr. Belete Mola, and State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Berhanu Tsegaye, alongside Nigerian embassy staff.
Tuggar highlighted Nigeria’s recent diplomatic achievements, including the AU Executive Council’s agreement to grant Nigeria a permanent seat on the Board of the African Central Bank, strengthening its role in shaping Africa’s financial architecture.
Nigeria also secured representation on the Board of the Technical Convergence Committee of the African Monetary Institute, the precursor to the African Central Bank.
On peace and security, Tuggar noted Nigeria’s role in the election of ECOWAS-endorsed candidates to the Peace and Security Council and emphasized the country’s leadership in promoting democratic governance through a Ministerial High-Level Panel Discussion on Regional Partnerships for Democracy.
“These developments affirm Nigeria’s technical capacity, economic significance, and commitment to advancing Africa’s monetary and political integration agenda,” Tuggar said.

He added that Nigeria remains dedicated to collaborating with member states and regional bodies to advance Africa’s shared prosperity and sustainable development.
