Combined personnel from the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) have been stationed at strategic points, with strict identification checks for all visitors.
Reports suggest that the tension stems from a disagreement between Governor Yusuf and his political mentor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, a national leader of the NNPP.
Kwankwaso is said to have strongly opposed Yusuf’s alleged plan to defect, warning that such a move could destabilise the NNPP and undermine the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
The crisis has reportedly deepened divisions within the NNPP, highlighting cracks in the long-standing alliance between Yusuf and Kwankwaso.
In a statement issued on behalf of the NNPP at both state and national levels, the party reaffirmed its position against any defection to the APC.
Hashim Dungurawa, NNPP Kano State Chairman, said, “We are aware of the developments happening here in Kano State concerning some individuals who intend to defect to the APC. I want to make it clear that the Kano State party, the national party, and our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with other leaders, do not approve of what is happening.”
