Kano Assembly Denies Probe of ALGON Chairperson Sa’adatu Yusha’u

Kano Assembly denies probe reports on ALGON Chair Sa’adatu Yusha’u, warning media platforms to retract or face legal action over false and misleading claims

Kano Assembly denies probe reports suggesting that it is investigating the Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in the state, Hajiya Sa’adatu Yusha’u, calling such claims false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Mr Kamaluddeen Shawai, the Assembly dismissed the online publications alleging a planned investigation into the ALGON Chair, who also heads Tudun Wada Local Government, over purported land allocation issues.

Shawai clarified that while a petition was indeed received, no investigation has been authorised or commenced by the legislative body.

He further stated that Majority Leader Lawal Hussain-Dala did not issue any statement or comment supporting the media reports.

“The receipt of a petition by the Majority Leader from citizens does not translate to an endorsement of any investigation, nor does it constitute a decision or pronouncement by the House,” Shawai said.

He described the media reports as deliberate misrepresentations of legislative protocol, designed to mislead the public and damage the Assembly’s credibility.

“The assembly condemns what is clearly a deliberate misrepresentation of legislative procedures,” he stated.

“These falsehoods are an attempt to undermine the integrity of our legislative work.”

Shawai emphasised that the Assembly operates strictly within constitutional guidelines and that any official probe would follow proper procedures, including ensuring a fair hearing for all parties.

“The House reserves the right to receive and consider petitions from individuals or groups,” he said.

“However, all processes are governed by the principles of transparency and the rule of law.”

The Assembly has demanded that the platforms responsible for the false reporting retract their stories and issue public apologies within seven days or risk facing legal action.
