Kaduna PDP Faults Government Over Tertiary Education Crisis Amid Staff Strike

Kaduna PDP raises alarm over education sector collapse as staff unions strike across tertiary institutions, urging urgent government intervention

The Kaduna State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep concern over the worsening state of tertiary education in the state, following the warning strike declared by staff unions across major institutions.

The affected schools include Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna State College of Education (Gidan Waya), Kaduna State College of Nursing, and Shehu Idris College of Health Technology (Makarfi).

The unions embarked on industrial action to protest poor working conditions and severe infrastructural decay.

In a statement on Friday, the PDP State Chairman, Edward Masha, described the strike as a “wake-up call” for Governor Uba Sani’s administration.

He warned that continued neglect could derail the academic calendar and jeopardise the future of thousands of students.

The strike, which began in the early hours of Thursday, is a direct consequence of the government’s neglect of the education sector, despite the significant financial inflows received by the APC-led administration in the last two years.

He further lamented that the strike may lead to delayed graduations and heightened mental health challenges among students due to prolonged academic disruptions.

The PDP called on the governor to immediately initiate constructive dialogue with the striking unions and urgently address their demands.

“Education is a fundamental right. The government must provide a conducive learning environment for both teachers and students,” the party asserted.

While expressing solidarity with affected students and lecturers, the PDP reiterated its commitment to promoting a responsive government in Kaduna State.

The party also urged residents to remain calm and keep faith in the PDP’s resolve to “rescue the state from the current inept administration through the ballot.”
