Kabiru Gaya ADC APC claims spark reaction as former Kano governor says ruling party fears African Democratic Congress growth
Former Kano State Governor Kabiru Gaya, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is increasingly unsettled by the growing influence of the ADC in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Kabiru Gaya made the remarks on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television, where he was asked about the state of opposition politics and electoral competition in the country.
The former governor claimed that the APC is actively working against the ADC, suggesting that the ruling party had previously weakened other opposition groups, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), but was now facing a new challenge.
“The major party is working hard against us. They were not worried at all before, because they have crashed the PDP and other parties,” Kabiru Gaya said, adding that the ADC remained committed to strengthening its political structure.
He insisted that the party had overcome significant internal challenges and was focused on building momentum ahead of future elections.
Kabiru Gaya also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to maintain neutrality and fairness, stressing that it must operate as an impartial arbiter for all political parties.
He called for greater transparency in the electoral process, arguing that public trust in democratic institutions depends on fairness and balance.
