Obogo takes over from Mr Gill Nsa, who had himself replaced Emmanuel Ogbeche in May 2024.
The frequent changes in the governor’s media office highlight internal challenges within the communications team since the administration began in 2023.
Obogo, a seasoned journalist and former staff member of ThisDay newspaper, previously served as Deputy Chief Press Secretary under former Governor Ben Ayade. Until this latest appointment, he was Deputy to Nsa in the current administration.
Nsa has now been reassigned as Special Adviser on Public Affairs. The reappointment is seen as a strategic reshuffle to strengthen the governor’s media presence and improve public engagement.
The appointments of both officials were confirmed in an official letter dated 17 June 2025, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Anthony Owan-Enoh.
Observers believe the frequent turnover in the Chief Press Secretary position reflects mounting pressures within Governor Otu’s inner circle, especially concerning the administration’s communication strategy.

However, the appointment of a media veteran like Obogo is expected to bring greater stability to the office.
