Dr Felix Ekhaguere Dies at 84, Edo Ex-Permanent Secretary Mourned

Felix Ekhaguere Death announced as Edo former permanent secretary and physician Dr Felix Amasihohu Ekhaguere dies at 84 in Benin after brief illness

A former Permanent Secretary in the Ministries of Health, Agriculture and Natural Resources in Edo State, Dr Felix Amasihohu Ekhaguere, has died at the age of 84 following a brief illness in Benin City.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued by his son, Engineer Osaretin Ekhaguere, who said the retired medical practitioner passed away on June 1.

Engineer Ekhaguere described his late father as an extraordinary man whose life was defined by discipline, excellence and a deep commitment to service and healing.

He noted that Dr Ekhaguere was a devoted family man, distinguished physician, mentor and friend who impacted countless lives through his medical practice and personal values.

Born on October 26, 1941, in Utoka village in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State, the late doctor came from a respected family lineage and grew into a life of public service and professional distinction.

Dr Ekhaguere spent decades in the medical profession, rising through the ranks at Central Hospital, Benin City, where he served as Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist before becoming Medical Director in 1984.

His career in public service spanned four decades, during which he held senior administrative positions across key ministries in Edo State.

A devout Roman Catholic and member of the Knights of St Mulumba, he was also deeply involved in faith-based service, including serving as Grand Knight of the New Benin Subordinate Council between 2011 and 2014.

Family members described him as a man of unwavering faith, integrity and dedication, noting that his legacy extended beyond medicine into mentorship and community service.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Sweet Madagwa Ekhaguere, six children and 12 grandchildren.

The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course as they prepare to honour his life and legacy.
