The Governor, speaking on Sunday at a special Thanksgiving mass, declared that God has sent him to combat cultism within Edo State.
The mass also marked the second year in office of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku, and commemorated Father’s Day.
Governor Okpebholo conveyed his strong conviction regarding this fight.
He stated that if fighting cultism relied solely on personal muscle and strength, he would not be the one undertaking this difficult task.
Instead, he emphasised his belief that God specifically sent him to do so.
“I want to tell you people that God is here. That’s why, if it’s somebody with muscles, with the strength to fight cultism, I don’t think I would have really been the one. But God has sent me to do that,” he affirmed.
The governor expressed profound gratitude, clearly convinced that his position is divinely ordained, particularly concerning the ongoing fight against social ills.
He also drew a parallel between the dedication required in fatherhood and in leadership.
“Let me use this opportunity to thank God for a day like this called Father’s Day. It takes courage to be a father. It takes sympathy. I encourage fathers to continue to love their children because children are God’s gifts,” he said.
He concluded by thanking Almighty God, the church, the fathers, and the women present, wishing them all God’s blessings.
Meanwhile, Blessing Agbebaku, the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, reiterated the legislative arm’s commitment to fostering a strong working relationship with the executive.
He expressed appreciation to all attendees, particularly the governor, despite his demanding schedule.
Agbebaku added, “Your Excellency, As a house, we want to work with you. We want to form synergy with you to take Edo to the next level. We are very ready to work with you to make sure our people have the best in Nigeria.”
