ADC Leadership Crisis Turns Tense in Ebonyi State

Ebonyi ADC Leadership Crisis escalates as party rejects claims by Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor and disowns alleged candidates and stakeholder meetings

Silas Onu-led faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ebonyi State has declared that Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor is no longer the state chairman of the party, stating that her tenure expired on May 19, 2026, amid an escalating internal dispute over leadership legitimacy and 2027 election preparations.

Leadership Crisis regarding Ebonyi ADC deepened on Thursday following a statement issued by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Prince Igu Idika, who insisted that Adibe-Nwafor no longer holds any official authority within the party structure in the state.

Prince Igu Idika maintained that any statements or political engagements attributed to Mrs Jennifer Adibe-Nwafor after the expiration of her tenure are personal opinions and do not represent the African Democratic Congress in Ebonyi State.

The party also dismissed reports of individuals parading themselves as ADC candidates following a purported stakeholders’ meeting in Abakaliki, describing such claims as illegitimate and not aligned with the party’s recognised primary elections.

According to the statement, the authentic ADC primaries for the 2027 general elections were conducted on May 21 and 22, 2026, under the recognised party structure in accordance with its constitution and electoral guidelines.

Ebonyi ADC Leadership Crisis also extends to allegations surrounding a reported meeting held at Vigo Event Centre in Abakaliki, where resolutions and endorsements were allegedly made concerning party unity and political alliances.

The party leadership rejected the outcome of the gathering, insisting that it was not convened or approved by the recognised ADC structure in the state.

Prince Igu Idika further described the meeting reportedly organised by Hon. Tobias Nnabike Oriji as unauthorised, alleging that it bore no official approval from the party and should not be considered an ADC activity.

He stated that any resolutions, committees or caretaker arrangements announced at the meeting were invalid and had no standing within the party.

The statement also warned against what it described as impostors claiming candidacy without participating in the official primaries, stressing that such individuals have no mandate to represent the party in future elections.

Despite the internal tensions, the ADC leadership in Ebonyi reaffirmed its commitment to internal democracy, due process and strengthening opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
