INEC updates records to recognise David Mark as ADC chairman following Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja, updated its official records to recognise former Senate President David Mark as the national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a Supreme Court ruling that reshaped the party’s leadership dispute.

The update appeared on INEC’s official online portal, effectively restoring recognition to David Mark’s leadership camp after months of uncertainty over the party’s structure.
The development follows a Supreme Court judgment delivered by a five-member panel, which set aside earlier appellate court orders that had maintained a status quo in the ADC leadership crisis.
The apex court ruled that the earlier directive of the Court of Appeal, which instructed all parties to retain their positions pending the resolution of the case, was no longer valid.
The matter was subsequently returned to the Federal High Court for further hearing.
Before the Supreme Court’s decision, the Court of Appeal had dismissed an appeal filed by David Mark, describing it as premature and filed without proper leave.
The appellate court had also ordered that the existing leadership arrangement remain in place temporarily.
Following that ruling, INEC had withdrawn recognition from the faction aligned with David Mark pending judicial clarification on the party’s legitimate leadership.
Dissatisfied with the appellate court’s position, David Mark approached the Supreme Court seeking to overturn the decision and restore his recognition within the party structure.

The latest INEC update now signals a significant shift in the ongoing leadership tussle within the ADC, although final determination of the dispute remains subject to further proceedings at the Federal High Court.
