The Lagos APC PBAT-KOH Campaign Council has mourned the death of Pa Reuben Fasoranti, the leader of Afenifere, who died on Tuesday at the age of 100.

The council, led by its Director-General, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, described Fasoranti as a revered Yoruba elder statesman, nationalist, educationist and advocate of democratic governance.

In a condolence statement issued by its Director of Information, Communication and Branding, Seye Oladejo, the council said Fasoranti’s life was defined by service, courage, integrity and a commitment to Nigeria’s development.

The council said the death of the Afenifere leader marked the end of an important chapter in the history of Yoruba socio-political development and Nigeria’s democratic struggle.

“Pa Fasoranti’s transition marks the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of Yoruba socio-political development and the wider Nigerian democratic struggle,” the council said.

The organisation added that Fasoranti belonged to a generation of nationalists whose commitment to principle remained firm during periods of political uncertainty.

“He belonged to that distinguished generation of nationalists whose convictions were forged in the furnace of principle, whose voices remained resolute in moments of national uncertainty, and whose commitment to justice, democracy and good governance transcended partisan considerations,” the council said.

According to the council, Fasoranti’s leadership of Afenifere and his association with the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo reflected his longstanding commitment to progressive governance, education, social welfare and the empowerment of ordinary Nigerians.

It said those values remained important pillars of democratic development and responsible leadership.

The campaign council further noted that Fasoranti’s influence extended beyond political advocacy, describing him as a moral voice who consistently emphasised the responsibilities attached to political power and public service.

“The council recognises that Pa Fasoranti’s contributions went beyond political advocacy,” the statement said.

“He represented a moral voice in public life, consistently reminding leaders and citizens alike that political power must be exercised with responsibility, public service must be guided by conscience, and the pursuit of national progress must never be sacrificed on the altar of personal ambition.”

The council said Fasoranti lived through several defining periods in Nigeria’s political history, including the struggle for democratic restoration and efforts to build a country founded on justice, equity and opportunity.

It added that his contributions would continue to be remembered by the Yoruba people and Nigerians who valued democratic governance and principled public service.

The death of Fasoranti at 100 has prompted tributes from political leaders, groups and individuals who have acknowledged his long public life and influence within Yoruba socio-political circles.
