Dispute regards ADC Lagos primary was raised in a communiqué issued after a meeting of the Forum of Local Government Area Chairmen of the party in Lagos State, where concerns were expressed over alleged efforts to alter the outcome of the primary process.
The statement was jointly signed by the forum’s Chairman, Anaere Ugochukwu, and Secretary, Oluwabukola Okeowo, who insisted that the wishes of party members must remain the foundation of candidate selection.
The chairmen expressed confidence in the leadership of the Lagos State ADC Chairman, George Ashiru, commending the state executive committee for its role in managing party affairs and maintaining internal stability.
According to the forum, internal democracy remains essential to the credibility and growth of any political organisation, stressing that the votes of party members should not be undermined by decisions taken outside the established process.
In a strongly worded appeal, the group warned that disregarding the outcome of the primary could weaken grassroots support and damage the party’s electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“As leaders at the grassroots, we believe the strength and integrity of any political party are rooted in adherence to democratic values. The collective decision of members must be respected at all times,” the communiqué stated.
The chairmen urged the national leadership to carefully review concerns surrounding the Lagos governorship primary and ensure that any resolution aligns strictly with the party’s constitution and democratic principles.
They further maintained that sustaining trust among members was critical to positioning the ADC as a competitive political force in Lagos State.
The forum also called for the preservation of the mandate freely given during the primary election, describing it as essential for unity and stability within the party structure.
Political observers say the development highlights growing internal pressure within the ADC as factions within the party continue to debate the management of its primary election outcomes in key states.
