Abuja police arrest child traffickers has been confirmed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command after operatives arrested two suspected child traffickers and rescued a four-year-old girl in Kuje.
The suspects, identified as Rose Daniel and Blessing John, were apprehended on August 27, 2026, while allegedly attempting to flee with the child, Ummi Mariam Abdullah.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement. She said the arrests followed information provided by a vigilant resident who witnessed the incident and promptly alerted the police.
According to Adeh, police operatives responded to the report, arrived at the location, rescued the child and took both suspects into custody.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Daniel and John had previously been arrested in December 2025 and prosecuted over a similar offence. The suspects were convicted but later released on bail after spending approximately five months in prison.
“Further investigation showed that since their release, the suspects had abducted and trafficked four children to different parts of the country,” Adeh stated.
“In the most recent case, two children were allegedly taken to an accomplice in Port Harcourt identified only as ‘Madam Ijeoma,’ who reportedly bought each child for N1.5 million.”
The police said the latest arrest prevented another child from being trafficked. The rescued four-year-old girl has been taken into protective custody while investigations continue.
The FCT Police Command noted that the suspects are currently in custody and will face further interrogation and eventual prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to track other accomplices and recover the remaining children who were earlier trafficked.
This development highlights the ongoing challenge of child trafficking in the Federal Capital Territory and the importance of community vigilance in reporting suspicious activities involving minors.
The police urged members of the public to remain alert and promptly report any suspicious movement of children or unusual activities involving minors to the nearest police station or through emergency channels.
The Command reiterated its commitment to combating child trafficking and protecting vulnerable children in the FCT.
